Trudy & Tommy also talk about –
.How Tommy started going to local networking events, meeting business people, business owners, getting clients that way, kind of the old you know, handshake and door-knocking and networking kind of thing.
.How Tommy’s transition of taking this face to face business to the online space. And again, it's a lot of learning but a tonne of opportunity. It's really amazing.
.How Covid has affected retail business,of course, we know, restaurants have been destroyed, left or right.
.Focus on the things that you love doing and you're very good at and find someone else that's got complementary skills to do the stuff that you can't.
.The problem, and probably the biggest problem I have with this transition so far is what to two things that are kind of related. One is niching, you know, niching down.
.Tommy discusses how as a local financial planner, I might help a newly married couple, do some, you know, college planning for a new child. And then I might also have 70, some year old, you know, a couple who are on social security and a pension and want to know, you know, the best way to leave money to their, you know, their grandchildren or whatever, very different
.Tommy talks about a common problem for people moving online, which is, there's so much you could do. But the problem is, there's too much you could do, you know, and you can't get in it mixed. It waters down your message. makes it harder to find a very, you know, niche tight group that relates to you. So yeah, so that's been a big issue is picking the niche, and then building the audience around that.
.Some of the groups Tommy is involved with, and how he looks for opportunities, I will chime in and ask questions or get feedback, which is really invaluable.
.Joining a lot of communities and asking questions. Again, there are tonnes of things that I think oh, well, that I think would be interesting. But then when you run it up the flagpole. People are like, I don't understand, like, number one, I don't understand what you're talking about, like the actual verbiage is confusing, or is that actually what I'm more concerned about is this. And it's just amazing that you go, of course, like, why I need to ask more people. You know, it's shocking how simple it is.
.Before I had my own business, I was in more of a corporate financial services situation where everything was very structured, you know, tie and suit and you could only say things certain ways and yet to kind of come off, as you know, certain air, I will say, being yourself, kind of just, you know, when you talk to people, or when you ask things, speak in your own voice, you know, be vulnerable, vulnerable, if that's the situation that you're in.
